Excellent adaptation of Nancy Mitford's novel showing a sarcastic view of life of the English upper class in the period between the two world wars. While the Tory government to appease Adolf Hitler, the idle rich out of the closet and drink, fornicate and dance. The period is beautifully recreated. Alan Bates is brilliant and Rosamund Pike (as Fanny) is absolutely fascinating. Each of the three women who are the focus of the story are traits with which viewers can be easily identified, while the girls go in search of love. Logan Fanny is the sensible and conservative discrete, Linda has a romantic life that we all have fantasized and stubbornly defies Polly's attempts to marry his mother. (IMDB) INFO
